Minot hopes to build second high school

MINOT, N.D. – Minot Public Schools announced today at a special meeting they’ve purchased land to build a second high school. They’ve been working since October with Cognizant on north hill.

115,000 square feet of open construction would be similar to Ramstad Middle School and Hoeven Elementary School. At the meeting it was mentioned there was ‘great potential’ for a second high school. The purchase included a 38-acre property with about 600 parking spots and an additional 75-hundred square foot building that could be used for special programs.

A historic day for Minot Public Schools as school board members say Cognizant donated its North Hill campus and land to the school district.

The superintendent of Minot Publics Schools says this will be a great benefit to the community.

“Thank you for your willingness to think outside the box and to really look at this property and what it might mean for the community in Minot. Today is an exciting day,” said Mark Vollmer, Superintendent.

Cognizant will continue operating out of the building until December 2021.

Vollmer says this is in the beginning stages and no decisions have been made about how the district will pay for the expansion and renovation.
