North Dakota seeks artists for state park residencies
N.D. — Artists can now apply for a residency program that will invite artists to stay and work at North Dakota state parks.
The Artist in Residency program will give three artists the chance to stay at a state park later this year while demonstrating their artistic skills and assisting park visitors through presentations. It’s the 11th year of the program, which is a collaboration between the North Dakota Parks & Recreation Department and the North Dakota Council on the Arts.
Artists will be invited to stay at Lake Metigoshe State Park (July 26 to Aug. 2), Fort Ransom State Park (Aug. 1-8) or Fort Stevenson State Park (Nov. 29 to Dec. 9). The program aims to create “works of art that showcase, document and celebrate our North Dakota state parks while providing opportunities for visitors to become stewards, with a deeper appreciation of artistic works inspired by the state parks,” according to a news release.
Artists will be provided with either a cabin or modern campsite for their visits, and they’ll be required to hold at least two on-site presentations. A stipend of $1,750 to $2,250 will be awarded upon completing the residency program.
